Maserati from Athens, Georgia bring their self-declared 70′s german cosmic/krautrock influenced sound to Lido for a night of lasers and headbanging and solid gold psych-rock.
Recent album Pyramid of the Sun (2010, Temporary Residence) was completed after the death of legendary drummer Jerry Fuchs(in the blue t-shirt above). He died during the recording of the album and read this and lodge it in your brain as rock n’ roll legend and bittersweet tragedy, the album closes with a song called Bye M’Friend, Goodbye which was the last song Fuchs recorded with the band before his tragic, accidental death in New York in late 2009.
Maserati’s sound developed with the arrival of Fuchs on drums on 2004′s Inventions For A New Season. The psychedelic sound of the band shines through in their sound from that record on. The rhythms are relentless and hypnotic, the guitars are loud yet clear but there’s also a darker, sexier side to it, something very very sexy indeed. It’s psych-rock at its best, designed for your imagination with a little help from the light show if they have one.
Here’s The World Outside from Inventions For A New Season from 2007 with Fuchs on drums.
